Putting a cap (£) on internet usage?

My very scatty and internet-loving DD is constantly going over her internet usage cap on her mobile phone and it is costing us a fortune. We have tried talking to her but it is all a bit unreal to her - she doesn't understand technology and doesn't think about cost when she is on the phone. We can buy extra time more cost-effectively from Vodafone the provider and we are doing so but it doesn't feel a very good life lesson.
Does anyone know of any mobile phone providers whose internet usage cap means that you actually LOSE ACCESS to the internet when you've used up your limit, as opposed to what Vodafone do, which is rub their hands with glee, continue to connect your teen to the internet but hit you with extortionate charges.

Change her to GiffGaff - unlimited internet for £12 per month, plus calls & texts etc.

Tesco offer capped contracts too - you only lose the bit you have used up. So if you used all your texts, you can still make calls etc. You can Top Up if you want.

I am on PAYG but looking at contracts at the mo. Tesco or Giffgaff look cheapest to me.

why does she have mobile internet at all? She doesn't run a business and doesn't need it.

take away the phone, give her a cheap PAYG for calls and texts (and a ration of top up each month, when it's gone it's gone). She can use the internet at home on a PC.

continue with no consequences and she will learn nothing.

Giffgaff definitely! you that it is doing so. £12 goody bag will be perfect. If that's more than you want to pay then she should sub the difference out of her pocket money .

(though I'd also query her age and what she's using it for....if she's 12 then she shouldn't be using that much net full stop, and if she's 17 how much video perhaps of subjects you wouldn't want her to watch is she watching?)

My 17yr old DS has only just got any net access by phone and that is 500mb.

Another one here who says put her on to Giffgaff. DD3 is on Giffgaff and has been known to use a lot of internet mainly by watching music videos on you tube.

There's plenty of unlimited deals if you shop around. I have all my dc's signed up with 3. Pay a tenner a month for unlimited net and texts..

Startail · 17/06/2013 22:24

DD1 and me, both have 3 contracts and no nasty suprises.

Her's is £13 a month and mine rather more, but I'm paying off an iPhone not a Ace.

I learned about GiffGaff on MN. DD now on it.

Also Tesco do a capped service which would suit you.

You preferably need to have a (cheap) unlocked handset, and apply online for the SIM cards. Then you activate them online.
