National Insurance card/number

My sone, who was 16 last summer has had neither a card or a number through yet. Should he have received this yet? Or am I being impatient?

I think you are normally issued it before their 16th birthday, my daughter was 16 a couple of weeks ago and got hers I think in November

I'm pretty sure both my DC got their cards a few weeks before their 16th birthday - but that was several years ago now, maybe the cuts have slowed down the process? Probably worth checking up though.

From hmrc website

"Receiving a National Insurance number automatically
You'll be sent a National Insurance number automatically just before your 16th birthday if both of the following apply:
you live in the United Kingdom
your parents or guardians are getting Child Benefit for you
If you're between 16 and 20 years old and haven't received a National Insurance number contact the National Insurance Registrations Helpline on Tel 0845 915 7006 for advice. Lines are open 8.30 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday."

I got a form through the post to fill in and send back to get my dd's one

Just checked the letter, it was issued 7 Oct!!

Not a card any more, just a letter.

OP- my DS was 16 last year too and we have not had his, will chase them for it today (thanks to poster who provided number).

Mine got theirs about 6 weeks before their 16th birthdays.

OP- I just called and they can only talk to your DC so I'm going to get my DS to call them later once he back from school.

DS got a letter just before he was 16 last November.
Doesn't look as though they do cards any more - DD had a card 2 years ago.
