Is it unusual for girls not to hang out?

My 16 year old dd has been off school due to an op since 10/12. During that time she has spent a week in hospital and then been at home.

Now I appreciate we've had Xmas and New Year which tends to be family time.

But my dd has not had a single friend to visit her during this period.

She has over 800 "friends" on FB, and her mobile doesn't stop beeping to say texts have come through.

Half a dozen get well soon cards and a similar number (diff friends) have sent Christmas cards through the post but noone has come to visit.

Does this seem odd to anyone else?

I don't think so. This time of year does seem to be 'family time', as you say. Also, the weather has been utterly foul, and my teens (at least) have been at home more, and reluctant to go out...

How does she feel about it? If she is in regular contact with her friends through text, FB, Skype, Facetime, etc. she might not mind... She might not even notice they haven't been to visit!

She's asked a couple of times if I've minded someone coming over and I've said no prob any time, and it's not materialised into anything.

She has been "chatting" to friends, so I don't think she's feeling ignored.

I've just been surprised.

I think teenagers now see phones and facebook as socialisisng so see each other less on a face to face basis

As flow 4 said teens socialise via Facebook, bbm etc and I wouldn't worry at all unless your dd is bothered by her lack of visitors.

I used to worry about Dd2 because of this.

She would constantly be texting/facebooking her friends who live just around the corner.

I used to say fgs, get off your bum and walk round and see them!

Now she is a residential student at 6th form 50 miles away she still texts/facebooks all her old friends as well as socialising with her new ones and we havent had any trouble with homesickness.

Try not to worry too much it is just how teens are now

I'm actually going through a similar thing atm. I'm worried as DD only seen friends twice over holidays but having read these posts I agree. Christmas is more a family time so I guess that's what most people are doing. She too is constantly on Facebook and Twitter. I'm realising I'm more bothered than she is - they socialise a lot differently to how I used to.

My DD hasn't seen anyone, and has had one phone conversation. On one level it bothers me, but on another I know that she is a bit of a home-bod and will be back to seeing all her friends next week when back at school.

My dd is 14 and hasn't seen or spoken to any of her friends all holidays, she had 3 new yr texts last night, and doesn't even know who one of them was from

D'you know what? I think the 'half a dozen or so' cards through the post is very telling! How many teenagers do you know who go to the effort of posting stuff? Sounds to me like she has some lovely friends.

Christmas holidays really are family time. I'm an adult with a car and no curfew, and I've hardly bothered to see any friends! If she's texting and facebooking, she's fine!

this seems to be the same for my ds (14) also.. they all sit and talk on the Xbox or minecraft or KiK ... I have texted his three other best mates mums and they're all coming round tomorrow to play Xbox together.. otherwise he wouldn't invite anyone round.. or go out..
why?!?!!!

My dd hasnt seen any friend over xmas. Most of her friends are not near by, but some are coming over friday,then she is going for a sleepover at the weekend, but that is it.
