Hi

I have 4 children, 21,19,7 &5. DS1 who is the 19 year old has been 'difficult' since he was 11. Over the teenage years we have had drink, drugs and plenty of police involvement. He took his GCSEs in a PRU and then got ABBC in his A levels at a local local college (with minimal effort from him).

He then went to Uni abroad,, his decision mainly due to the reduced costs. After about 3 months it became obvious he wasnt coping and, having been suicidal and admitted into a psych unit, he came home about 6 weeks ago. Since then he has been on anti-ds and we are awaiting therapy.

He remains v suicidal, although I perceive an improvement. He says that he sees no point in anything anymore. He has gone out tonight and I am worried for his safety.

Has anyone been through similar?

Contact the police. They will prioritise him as a missing person due to his history.

lemonybarcode · 31/12/2012 21:27

I have thought about that, but a)I dont know where he is b) he says he is OK

its just v worrying

Is he with good friends who know the situation?

lemonybarcode · 31/12/2012 21:52

I have no idea who he is with, which I know might sound a bit like I dont care. Ive tried so much to keep tabs on him, but this evening its gone a bit awry. x

Has he got a phone with him? If its switched on they can and will narrow the area if you feel he is at risk.

lemonybarcode · 31/12/2012 21:59

he does have a phone with him and ive just text him, to ask if he is ok.

I agree with the above posters, trust your instincts and contact the police.

lemonybarcode · 31/12/2012 22:04

hmm - i agree in parts, but I cant call them if I dont know where he is. Have u been through similar? what did you do??

Jellykat · 31/12/2012 22:05

What time did he leave lemony?

RoseWei · 31/12/2012 22:05

Do you have a photo? Police can capture it on their phone and send it to eg British Transport Police who can - and will - look out for him at stations where he might possibly get to/trains he might be on. Also, can send the photo to patrols in places your DS might possibly be.

Worth phoning round hotels/guest houses? (Past experience ...)

He will be prioritized as a missing person - rain is right.

Been through this with a DS in the past - you're welcome to pm at any point.

Good luck -

lemonybarcode · 31/12/2012 22:22

Thank U Rosew, I might pm u.

He left at about 2, just before I got back from work

I know how it works with police. They can find his area if he is vulnerable i.e. suicidal if his phone is switched on.

Jellykat · 31/12/2012 22:38

Oh lordy thats quite a while...
Any text yet?

SirBoobAlot · 31/12/2012 22:45

Contact the police, please. I don't want to frighten you, but NYE is one of the highest rates with self injury and worse. And they can track the phone if it is used.

Tomorrow morning call and push for him to be seen as soon as possible.

RoseWei · 31/12/2012 22:48

Yes - do contact the police - and don't forget to give/show them a photograph and give them phone number.
Any news?

Brightspark1 · 01/01/2013 00:00

I really hope you are worrying for nothing and he will return home safely, but you have to trust your gut instincts. Having been in a similar position I called the police and made sure they understood DD's mental health history. Thankfully they found DD in time and got her to hospital. Please post to let us know he's ok.

Jellykat · 01/01/2013 00:32

rainbowinthesky · 01/01/2013 13:58

Reaa · 01/01/2013 20:01

Is he back yet?

CanYouHearMe · 05/01/2013 12:29

Was watching this thread, but feel a bit disturbed as there is no update on OP's son. Hope everything is ok.

pharaohmum · 07/01/2013 09:55

I too am hoping that everything is ok

ElectricSheep · 07/01/2013 23:36

How is your DS Lemony?

I read your OP as not so much being in immediate worry as worried in general about DS's ongoing depression?

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 07/01/2013 23:47

hope everything is ok x
