I am convinced that my teen son aged 14 is depressed but he denies it and won't go to counselling.

Councelling would not do him much good if he doesn't want it.

I suppose a lot depends on how serious your son's depression is. What does your GP think?

I know he would like to refer my son but again, we can't force him to go.

My son is in counselling at his school. It was offered in a really light kind of way. He wasn't coping with fall outs with his peer group. So the school said if you went to the see the school counsellor, she would be able to offer him some skills to make it easier for him.
How is he behaving?

In my experience, very few teens who really need counselling will agree to go Sad. If your gp really thinks he is depressed, maybe he should try medication which might lift his mood enough to encourage him to try counselling.
