HELP! Is this outfit appropriate or not?

Ok so my 14 year old daughters going to a Christmas party in a couple of weeks, with her group from school. She's already planned out what she wants to wear (she's very organised, unlike me) and wants me to order the dress and shoes for her. She showed me the dress and the shoes and i'm not sure if they're appropriate, I didn't tell her this though because I know she would have cracked up. Here's the outfit:

I just want to know your opinions on whether I should let her wear this or not. I know im probably being a fuss pot but still you can't help but worry!

Well the dress looks exactly like the sort of thing DD2 has been wearing for years (she's 19) and she always looks lovely. The shoes on the other hand are vile!

My DD(16) has just bought that dress for a party. They're all the rage now. My DD however, can not walk in heels/wedges so is wearing her Converse (new ones).

Can't see how there could possibly be anything wrong with the dress.

I think the dress is really nice.

Nice dress, I assume she is going to wear a camisole under it because of the airholes in the sides. Brr!

Can she walk/dance in those shoes? It would be meaningless to buy them if she can't.

I bought a similar shaped/colour dress for dd1(15) this week, I bought these shoes but in a matching claret colour to go with it. She looks lovely in it!

I think the dress is lovely, I'm sure she'll look gorgeous! Don't really like the shoes, but that's probably because I'm old ;)

Oh, didn't spot the cut out bits. Not my cup of tea but they're not obscene.

dress is lovely, cut outs ok tho like schlock they are not my cup of tea. Shoes are horrid and imo ruin the dress.

The dress looks ok - I'd be fine with DD1 or DD2 wearing it (16 and 14 years respectively). To be honest, if she put tights with it, I'd probably let DD3 (12) wear it.

I think the cut-outs are in a reasonable spot (i.e. not too near boobs/bum/etc) and they're not massive. Having a bit of the dress cut away seems to negate the need for a low neckline, bum hanging out or a skintight dress in their eyes too, so it'd seem the lesser of many, many evils to me!

The shoes are fairly vile, but those wedge shoeboot type things seem to be all the rage. I'd take her to a shop though - I don't think they're totally inappropriate, but can she walk in them? DD1 would be fine in them, DD2 would spend all night miserable and limping.

dress is clearly cheap (cost-wise, I mean) but fine if she is slim, as most teens are. Nothing tarty or inappropriate at all.

the shoes look completely ridiculous but if she doesn't mind being a laughing stock or falling over, and pays for them herself, why not. We all make clothing errors at times. If she has to walk anywhere though she should should take something that actually functions as footwear.

The dress is lovely, the shoes are awful. But nothing to worry about there, she'll look entirely appropriate.

WHen I was 14, deciding what I wanted to wear meant looking through my wardrobe, not the New Look website! THere's no way I would have been bought something to wear as a one off.

I'm not sure about the cutouts, and the shoes look as though they will be impossible to move in.

I'd be fine with my dds going out in that. (Not that they want to, they're more likely to wear combats and baseball boots). I'm more bothered by appropriate behaviour than clothing. Tartiness/inappropriate behaviour isn't about clothes IMO.

The dress is lovely, really pretty. And everyone is saying the shoes are horrible but they're just stylish, if she can walk in heals let her have them :-)

That dress is lovely.
The shoes are hideous in my opinion; look like a buffalo's hoofs. But my nieces wear such things as well - apparently they are fashionable.
I don't think they are socially inappropriate.
I wouldn't let a 14 year old wear such shoes regularly; it's bad for her feet, legs and posture. And is she sure she can walk in them without breaking her ankles? But if she only wears them occasionally, I suppose it's not so bad.
