My 13 yr old ds doesnt seem to be able to deal with the usual playground jibes, he gets upset & tearful & eventually lashes out. He always wants to be in the thick of all the playground action & forces himself on people & then gets upset when hes annoyed them.
He is academic, loves sport & going to school but really struggles to maimtain a friendship.
How can we help him.

Try the book rules of friendship It's been recommended on here a few times and gives tips for making and keeping friends

my youngest daughter was very similar, we encouraged her to join an after school dance club, she loves dance but hadnt thought to join before, she has made several friends and we feel it was been a good starting point for her. does your lad have any hobbies he could do in after school activities? may be a friend round for a computer games session etc? good luck, im sure it'll work out for you.

thanks fuzzy, yes he plays football & rugby & are always encouraging him to invite friends over but he doesnt seem to be able to continue that friendship outside of the club.
