worried about ds drinking

he is almost 18 and does go to pubs and is served. comes home exceedlying inebriated couple of times a week. but the thing that is worrying me is sometimes he will just carry on, after he comes in, in sitting room, while we are in bed, finishing the bottle of cidar til he is even more pissed.
i dont catch him at it but dh does and shows his disapproval. i have told him he is too young and is drinking like an 18 year old, when he is not yet 18, but i realise that wasnt a good phrase as it wont work when he is 18.

my dh does have drink problems. tends to binge every 2 months or so. which is probably relevant. so the rest of the time i and dh are sober and i have tried to tell ds that we need a sober household. (I am always sober out of support for dh)

I wouldn't say coming home and carrying on drinking by himself when he's already drunk is a good sign. Tell him that he doesn't need to drink anymore when he gets home from a night out and to go straight to bed.

If his father has had drink problems that suggests it is entirely possible that your son will be predisposed to them as well. Make sure he is aware of this.

Could you insist (for everyone) that you have a Dry House? No booze whatsoever to be consumed there.

If he wants to carryon drinking after a night out, he could go to a friends (my thinking behind this being that at least he would have company)....may be good for your dh too.

yes i have sort of mentioned that to ds in the past,the dry house aspect- its a sort of rough deal that we have to live with, i might mention it again. and why shouldnt he go to otehr peoples houses.

I am amazed at the amount teenagers drink My ds is 18 and they all drink and think nothing of it. My dp is a recovering alcoholic hasn't had a drink in over 20 years so we were worried but ds seems like me in that he can take it or leave it. He only ever drinks at clubs/parties I would be seriously peeved if he just drank in his room for example. I always comment no matter how much eye rolling and I think the messgae gets there eventually.
