Periods - mooncup?

my DD hasn't started her periods yet but several of her friends have. we;ve had a couple of chats about stuff generally and she has a comprehensive book that i'm happy covered all the biological/theory stuff but i'm starting to think about the practical options.

i started using a femmecup 6 months ago and i love it compared to traditional sanitary protection which always ended up with leaks, etc - particularly when i was a teenager and sometimes had incredibly heavy periods.

i'm not sure whether i should recommend it as an option to DD though. does anyone's teenager use a cup?

Haven't got a teenage daughter but have used a mooncup - my comment would be that they do require some practiced that you become very familiar with your anatomy as well as having a bit of a gory aspect. I think they are for more 'experienced women rather than a teenager as there's enough to get your head around as it is without learning insertion techniques and mooncup recovery/spillage strategies. Definitely something to mention but Id keep it simple to start with.

I would make sure she's aware of it as an option - which she might be anyway if you use one - but be prepared for the reaction that she might be a bit "eurgh!" about the idea.

Personally I don't think I'd have been comfortable using one until very much after I had started having sex and becoming more familiar with myself down there - certainly not as a young teen. But everyone's different - and you can get smaller cups for teenagers, so worth making her aware of it as an option.

thanks. will present it as an option and go from there.
