Hi am wondering what you do with your teens during the school hoildays?
My son is 14 (15 in Oct). I have only just changed my hours from days to nights so was wondering if you leave them at home or make arrangements for them?

Sorry I wrote that wrong I have changed my hours from nights to days. So just to confirm it would be in the dayime

At 14 , I left mine at home and kept in contact by phone , text etc.

On one-off days, my almost 13yo is left to her own devices if we are both at work. She generally arranges to do stuff with friends. Also I do work very near by and keep in mobile contact with her.

Not sure what I would do if it was the whole of the holidays - that's a lot of time to fill!

Same, left at home. DD normally made plans (she would go to a relative's for a week, have some sort of residential for another week, I would have holiday for some of it and so she would have about 3 weeks where she would entertain herself). It was fine.

I don't work now, but last summer DS was 13. I would just leave him at home. Sometimes DH was around -but not always.

DS loved it. He got up when he felt like it, got himself some breakfast/lunch - and then glued himself to a laptop for the afternoon.

It wasn't all day, every day though. I think they would get bored with that.

Mine were allowed to go out with friends , they had to text me what their plans were though.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. He is more than able to take care of himself at home. I think I am worried about him more if he is out and about. He is at the age of risk taking so am just concerned that I am doing the right thing.

Yes Maryz I have just remembered that they like to sleep most of the day away and be up half the night!! So that will help me out quite abit. I have decided that I have going to pay out for football training a couple of times a week that he wants to do. He will be one of the oldest but at least it will keep him out of trouble. Its 6 hours a day, so if it is split say day near the begining of the week and then chill (sleep)!! Then another day later on in the week. Hopefully that will work.
How come your son gets 13 weeeks off Maryz where abouts are you located?

Tricky... my DD (14) is at home on her own this week. I also have a DD (12) who is away this week. DD (14) has spent most of her days on the computer I think . I make sure to get her out of the house when I get home (which is quite early) as I just think you can go a bit mad sitting in the house all day. I'm not worried about her as such, just don't want her bored and lonely.

I've booked her in to surf school next week, for which she'll have to get there and back herself, but other things I've suggested have gone down like lead balloons, and to be honest there isn't very much on for 14 year olds who aren't passionate about sport.

DD is 14 and volunteering a SN scheme for the first 3 weeks, not sure if its every day or not, she decided the dates. I work 3 days a week and we are going away last week of august, she may go up to my mums for a few days.

Oooh, sounds great - must ask my Irish mate all about it when I see her on Saturday - how do you pronounce it?!
