Growing and weight gain

My 14 yr old daughter has been growing steadily for the last year or so at a rate of about one inch every two or three months or so. Also, over the last few months she has started to develop boobs but hasnot yet started menstruation. I have noticed over the last two months or so that she has started to also put on quite a bit of weight. She is still thin ish in the scheme of things but it is relative and quite noticeable. She is a keen dancer and aware that if she continues to put on weight it may be a problem.

What I am keen to know is if the weight gain is likely to slow down or even off as she continues to grow or if she is likely to continue to put on weight. I have heard of weight fluctuation during puberty but do not know if this means that it just increases or if it is also possible that it can level off or drop (relative to height) again.

her diet has not changed ( she eats reasonably well!) and her activity level remains high.

I don't know how different it is for the different sexes, but my ds grew out a LOT when he was 12 / 13. It's only once he turned 15 that he started 'growing into his weight'. He's just about to be 16 and even this morning an old lady at church commented to him on "how tall and slim" he was looking Grin. Perhaps not greatly PC, but I know he was chuffed as he's been calling himself fat for 2 - 3 years Sad.

dd is 13, and certainly padding out too. I'm just hoping she will be the same. Smile

Fingers crossed for both our daughters then!!

I think its different for everybody. Some clearly start filling out and thats it they keep gaining weight forever from what I can see but some teens seem to fluctuate a lot, that whole idea of you can't go out an up at the same time.

I know my DD1 now 16 did put on a bit of weight, like yours still thin in the grand scheme of things, but went from under a size 6 to a size 10 ish, then it all just seemed to fall off as quickly as it had appeared and shes still thin as a rake now.

The same thing happened with me and with my mum. Maybe try and think back to then or ask your mums if they remember if you gained weight/how your body changed so you can get more of an idea.

My DD, also 16, did the same thing. Two years ago, she was probably wearing a 10 and maybe 12 at times. Her summer clothes were all new last year because everything was too small.

This year, as she starts to try on clothes for summer holidays, they are all too big again!

Her diet and eating habits have not changed one bit - she still eats like a horse! Grin
