Tonsils

Tried this in childrens health but didnt get any replies so have moved here

My dd(13) needs to have her tonsils out. My eldest had hers done at 3 and was absolutely fine. Didn't cry or appear to be in any discomfort. Anyone have any experience of this at 13? 10 days and counting till op.

No sorry. Iwas 5 when I had mine out. Ds has tonsil problems at least once a year but the GP seems keen to leave them in situ... sigh...

Hi my DS had his tonsils out 2 years ago at 13. He was absolutely fine. The key is to follow all post op instructions, and I think the most important thing is to keep on top of any pain. I always remember advice from my DD's doctors (she has serious long term illness) that it is easier to control pain if you don't let it reach an unacceptable level in the first place. So my advice would be to take the regular painkillers as instructed. I think complications can arise post op if not eating normally, you need to be swallowing food etc to prevent build up of large scabs. So the painkillers allow you to eat normally, which is impossible with pain. I'm sure your DD will be fine. A few DVDs, cuddles, help too.
