I've been taking DS (14) into work with me, twice now, for a skillshare workshop where employees can learn skills which others in the company have.
He did electrics last week and today has done metalwork, cutting and welding.

The other people in the class (all adults btw) told me that he was the equal best there with another guy who has some experience anyway. The guy teaching (a very taciturn northern irish fella) said that he was a natural.

Proud proud proud.

This is a big deal for me as I've been despairing about his attitude and his future.

Maryz and Ernestthebavarian I hope you see this as you have been nice to me on other teen threads. Smile

Btw I don't mean to preen but if you had seen my other posts you might understand my relief! (Small steps...)

Well done to CUP's ds. Sounds like you may have a budding engineer/electrician there.

Smile

Good for him. Has it given him a taste for choosing this as his career?

mumblechum1 · 16/03/2012 17:51

Maryz, good for your ds1, too! Sounds like he's turned a corner, hopefully Smile

CuttedUpPear · 16/03/2012 17:56

I can't say yet as to what career path DS might choose as he tends to back off violently as soon as I suggest anything.
But it's great to know that he has a talent that could be developed, and he's going to try to get onto the carpentry day next week too (mmm shelves for me...)
