Holidays for under 18s?

Sorry, I know this has probably been done before, but...

Ds and his mate want to go on holiday by themselves this August, 3 weeks before ds turns 18.

Looking online, the only thing I can see for under 18s is a campsite/caravan park called Smugglers in Newquay which reviews describe as chav hell, full of rubbish, all crammed in together and vomiting teenagers as far as the eye can see.

There are also a few hostels also in Newquay which sound just as bad.

I can't see anywhere else at all in Southern England other than Newquay. They want to just rent a cottage, maybe invite a couple of others along and just hang out, obv. do a bit of clubbing but not 24/7.

Otherwise, I see that 18-30 holidays and Escapades also book 17 yr olds in with a parents consent, but again it looks kind of wall to wall pissed up teenagers again.

Has anyone found anything lively but not ridiculously downmarket, either in SE England or in the Med?

Have you tried the YHA? They do activity holidays. Haven't checked out age limit but the name suggests that they would have something for this age group - and its no longer like the Youth Hostelling of my youth!!!

I imagine wall to wall pissed up teenagers is more attractive to him than to you Wink.
Seriously though there must be other holiday campsites on the coast. What about a surf school? I think some of them do residentials.

Thanks, BBB and SS. When I told him what it sounded like his eyes lit up Wink. I think they will end up going to Escape in Newquay, when I showed him Magaluf, Zante etc he didn't look that bothered. Hmm. Personally I would rather have gone to Greece at that age because they can legally drink from 16, and would be pretty much guaranteed sunshine.

When we finished sixth form a big grup of us rented out a big hostel type place - a bit like a big scout hut - which had dorms with bunks, in the middle of the peaks, not close to anywhere. We took sleeping backs, food and a lot of drinks Grin and then made as much noise as we liked. And it was very cheap too!

I went here as a teen. Nice balance of a site set up for groups of teens and a nice area etc.

My ds went with 4 friends to somewhere close to Palma in Majorca last summer. He was still 17 & friends were all 18. It was a last minute deal they found on Teletext. Being 17 was no issue. They just stayed in a normal hotel on an all-in-one deal & had a great time. They are not a heavy drinking bunch & even visited the Cathedral in Palma!
