Time for bed for an 11 year old....

What time does your 11 year old go to bed? DD1 goes at 9pm, she says that several of her friends go to bed later (I know they do because they come on to msn asking for her).

I know that most of these friends have older siblings who obviously go to bed later, and now she has started to want to go to bed later to..

DS1 is 13.5 & DS2 is 12. Both go to bed at 9.30pm on a weekday, this has been the case since DS1 was about 11. A lot of their friends do go to bed later but my DSs have to get up at 7am, whereas their mates roll out of bed at 8am+ because they live closer to the school.

My DD started at 9pm in Yr7, quickly moved to 9:30 though.

Had managed to get it to 10am before Yr9, but puts herself to bed early if tired!

DD3 is just 14 and I have just changed her bedtime from 9 to 9.30 on school nights. She gets very tired and would find it difficult to get up for school if she went any later. DD3 is now 16 and is now allowed to choose her own bedtime. She rarely stays up later then 11 even at weekends and last night was in bed and asleep by 10.30.

DD1 goes to her room at 8 and reads for about 20mins. She's normally asleep when I go up to check.

My 11 year old goes at 9 and reads for 20 mins he is in the process of negotiating 9.30 which I think is fair and will let him when Big Brother ends At weekends he stays up with us and time is very flexible

zaphod · 18/01/2006 13:45

Between 9.30 and 10.30. He goes to bed at 9.30, but reads and listens to music till about 10 - 10.30.

DS1 is 12 and the deal on a school night is upstairs by 8.30, lights off by 9.

How reassuring this board is! My daughter goes up to bed at 9 - 9.30 and has lights out at 9.45 at the very latest. However, I have been informed by her that this is far too early and all her other friends are up until 11 (I have to say some of them look as if they do too - talk about bags - some have suitcases). I am insisting on the 9 - 9.30 rule. (She is 13). Also, I want some time to myself with just a husband and no kids and this is the only time I get it. At the weekend, she stays up a bit later, but only until 10.00. I have often had enough by that time and she reads in bed.

fairyjay · 02/02/2006 16:39

9 - but they're up at 6.15 am

DS2 is 12 and used to manage to malinger until 10-10.30, but has just started a morning paper-round and now gets himself into bed with no arguments before 9.30, it's bliss

QE2 · 02/02/2006 21:32

ds1 is 12 and has had a 9pm bedtime for quite a while now. Falls asleep within minutes but is always up by 7am at the latest even on a weekend.
