How to let 12 year old boy done gently

My dd also 12, informs me she is to be "asked out" tomorrow by a boy in her class. She is not interested in boys yet and wants to know how to let him down gently. He is very nice apparently.

I am no use at this and ended up dating lots of boys rather than tell them "thanks but no thanks"

I always used to tell boys that I would like to, but that my Mum wouldn't let me. Easy get out at 12! (Doesn't work so well at 16, though).

Definitely get her to say she's only allowed boys as friends and (as a mum to a boy) to say thank you for asking me tho!

Also mum of 11yo boy and would also 1) blame mum and 2) go for the 'good friends' line, cos if she says he's nice then presumably she would want to spend a bit of time with him amongst a bunch of mates.

It happened today (she has been hiding all week) and she used the line "thank you but no. Would love to be friends" He seemed happy and relieved (I suspect) with that.
