How to celebrate DD's 16th in January?

Any suggestions appreciated.

A house party is out of the question, & though have made a few enquiries about hiring a hall - no one locally will hire for 16th party due to too many bad experiences with gatecrashers. We don't have a shed load of money (DH being made redundant in Dec & as yet no other job to go to), but it feels like 16 is a bit of a landmark birthday - albeit a small landmark - that should be celebrated. I think she'd prefer to do something with her friends than with us. January's such a dismal month though - so can't do picnics or anything like that. Can anyone think of anything that might be fun/special for her & her friends, but that doesn't cost the earth? We live in London.

Does she WANT a celebration? None of mine did.. and definitely not a 'family' event..!

Does she like theatre? One of mine was dying to go and see a show so got tickets for her and a friend to go. Son wanted to go go karting, so again he had a friend.. DD2 just wanted money for new clothes and no fuss at all!

I'd ask her what if anything, SHE would like to do to mark the occasion:)
