If you create an account on xbox.com and then become friends with them, you will be able to see what they are playing, and which friends it is with.

There is no way to set online play to friends only, only to turn it on or off.

DS1 mutes everyone he doesn't know so that he can only hear his real life friends. That way he says he avoids having to listen to the idiots.
He also uses a turtle beach headset which mutes the game sound from the tv, then you don't have to hear any of it!

thanks for all the advice guys I have gone through the xbox now and set a timer setting age restrictions etc. dc promised they would only play friends but i had checked on community and they had been playing people not friends on a beta. Can you hear or message these people when playing they say can only hear or mess friends do not know what to believe xbox in living room so i thought i was monitoring well If any one has a savvy teenager they could charge to train other parents on how to use a an xbox
