Boggle is popular here.

Articulate is fab (but you need at least 4 to play this).

Jenga is always a laugh (not really a board game, but a table game at least).

Who's in the bag.

DS is almost 16 but has always loved all the classics - Monopoly, Cleudo, Risk, Scrabble - and begs people to play :)

Agree that a pack of cards is always good.

If they like detective stories 221b Baker Street is FAB. You have to travel around London and go to places to find clues to help solve the mystery. Clues may be in the form of a general knowledge question, a cryptic clue, or an extra piece of information. You get 40 stories with the box which we've still not got through, even though it's been played a lot.

Balderdash is brilliant - it's a bit like Call my Bluff - you get a card with different categories on it (abbreviations, film titles, laws, names, etc), and where you have landed on the board determines which category you do.

Everybody in the game has to write down their own defiinition/story/law/history, including the person who drew the card, then they are all read out and you have to guess which one is the correct one. Points for getting it right, but also points for every time someone chooses your guess as the right one.

It's very, very funny and encourages some very imaginative play!

Callisto doesn't take long but can lead to long held grudges if people 'work in partnership'.
