Alcohol at 13

DS's friend (13) has been smelling of alcohol recently and his mates say he gets it from home as his mum is not around much and he often wakes up alone in the house and gets himself up for school, His mum has problem with alcohol. Have alerted the school but is there anything else I should do? DS doesn't want his mate in trouble and doesn't want to be seen to be the snitch so he wants me to keep low profile.

Watch and wait I think and if nothing changes you can report to social services anonymously.

Thank you, this is reassuring as I don't want to get involved and make a tricky situation worse.

Very difficult... Your heart goes out to a kid who has nobody in the house when he wakes up Sad

Great advice thanks Mayz. I am very lucky that I have great relationship with DS but I did inadvertently dump him in the brown stuff last year, hence the caution. We talked it through and he still trusts me and his dad thank goodness - honest open communication solves most problems doesn't it?
