dd is 13 and seems to have stopped growing at 5'4.ds is nearly 17 and is about 5'8.
i just assumed they would both be taller than me - i am 5'8.
i am taller than my mum and she was taller than hers.
did your teens overtake you and how old were they when it happened?
thanks Smile

I am 6 foot, and so is dd (15).

My mum and gran are/were 5 foot 10.

I was this height when I was 12, dd has only recently hit the same height.

sharbie · 10/02/2011 22:30

thanks goml - so my dd may grow a bit more then.good.

Tbh I think once a girl starts puberty, she tends to stop growing/slow down.

Not sure if it's a rule, but it definitely happened like that with me ie I was 5'8" at 11, got my period, stopped growing.

cyrilsneer · 10/02/2011 22:59

For my daughters (and me too, from what I remember) there was a phase of rapid growth while other changes were happening and then the first period. After that no more (or very little) growth.

Although someone did once tell me that girls continue to grow for two years after their period starts...?

I'm 5'4, my husband is 6'0

Daughters are 5'7 and 5'8.

ajandjjmum · 10/02/2011 23:01

I'm 5'2" and DD is about 5'5". DS is just about 6'.

DD didn't grow at all after she started her periods at 13, but DS is still growing at nearly 19.

I'm definitely the shorty in our family. Grin

Changeisagoodthing · 10/02/2011 23:02

I am 5 foot7

Dd is 16 and 5 ft 5.

I always thought she would be taller than me

Obviously i starved her

sparklyblack · 10/02/2011 23:08

There is a calculator thing somewhere on the Internet where you can put your and DP/H's height in and it works out how tall your children will grow to be. Might not be very reliable but quite fun to have a go!

I will have a look for it.

said · 10/02/2011 23:09

I'm 5'6" and my nearly 14 yr old daughter seems to have stopped at about 5'5". I'm quite surprised as I assumed she'd overtake me. Thnik she's a bit put out actually. Started her periods 3 years ago so I guess this is it.

sparklyblack · 10/02/2011 23:10

Here it is

lubeybooby · 10/02/2011 23:10

I'm 5ft 4 and dd (14) is 5ft 10. Her dad is 6ft 4 though

sparklyblack · 10/02/2011 23:12

Oh no that is a slighty different one to what I looked at before... this might be better www.calculator.net/height-calculator.html#

trident · 10/02/2011 23:13

DS is 15 and just about 6' 2".

He tucks me under his arms for a hug - on a good day. On a bad day he just pats me on the head in a wonderfully patronising way - just like I used to do to my Mum....

Hey Ho...

sharbie · 10/02/2011 23:51

thanks everyone - sparkly calculator says ds and dd will both grow another 2ins.

lospollos · 11/02/2011 09:01

I stopped growing at 14, i was 5'9 though lol

I'd rather be 5'4

I think like others have said, women start to slow down.

marriednotdead · 11/02/2011 09:44

I remember someone medical once explaining about height/growth/periods starting and how it all connects going through puberty but I can't remember the order or timings.

I was tiny for my age, didn't start my periods until I was 15 yet ended up at a normal 5'6 with size 6 feet.

DD passed me at 12. She ended up at 5'8 and the same shoe size as me but I thought she'd be much bigger- exp is 6'6 with size 14 hooves.

winnybella · 11/02/2011 10:19

So weird these calculators.

I'm 5'8" and DP is 6' and it tells me DD will be 5'6".

Of course it's possible, but isn't it more likely she'll be somewhere in between?

basildonbond · 11/02/2011 11:39

eeek just done ds2 (11) and it's predicting 6'7"!!!! he is by far the tallest boy in his primary school so I wouldn't be suprised

ds1 is supposedly going to be 6'1 and dd pushing 6' I'm soo going to be the smallest person in my house ....

TheVisitor · 11/02/2011 11:44

DS1 is 5'11" at 18. I'm 5'5" and his dad is 5'8". He overtook me at the age of 14. He grew an extra inch just over the last 6 months.

ivykaty44 · 11/02/2011 11:50

my dad is 6f7.5" and my mum was 5f8" I amd exactly one foot smaller than my dad and never got to be taller then my mum until she went through the menopause and shrunk to 5f5" by 57 Sad

My dd1 aged 18 is 5f9" and dd2 is aged 12 and 5f4" ATM

There father is only a short arse as well at 6f1"

musicposy · 11/02/2011 13:51

I seem to have some kind of shrinking thing going in my genes Sad. My mum is 5'6" and dad is 6'2" but I'm shorter than both at 5'5" (despite sis being 5'8" and bro 6'4").

Next generation, same again. Me 5'5", hubby 5'10", but DD1 (15) is only 5'3", so I'm guessing that's it. The height calculator didn't work either, as we did that height at 2 think and DD1 was predicted 5'8" - she's 5" short of that.

DD2 is tiny weeny. Going on for 12 and everyone thinks she's about 8. She's only about 4'6" tall and weighs just over 4 stone. Despite this she's well into puberty.Sad

I have no idea why they are both so little except maybe that DH's mum is small and they've got their genes from there.

DS1 now 18 was a a bit of a late starter I'd guess (compared to DS2) - now he's about 6'1" or 2" maybe - not actually measured.

DS2 just turned 14 and is getting close to my height 6' and is bigger than Ds1 at the same age he was. DS2 wears same trousers DS1 had at 16 as example.

DS3 & 4 are also quite tall too - think all of them will end up over 6' - will be interesting to see how they compare in the end.

sparklyblack · 11/02/2011 15:15

It is probably not really all that accurate (and certainly not in some cases!) but like I said it's only a bit of fun. I agree that periods, puberty etc will have quite a big impact.
