Lying and guilt trips.

My DS 14 has developed a need to lie constantly about everything. Last night was his turn to wash the dishes and this morning I found an unwashed cup in the cupboard. When I asked him why he hadn't washed it he said that it wasn't him and then later on said that he had just got confused and maybe it was him but he didn't realise he'd done it. And then he attempted the guilt trip and suggested that he just wanted to spend time with me and was in a hurry to finish but took so long that he thought he better just go to his room instead.
Help. Are all teenagers this exhausting?
