Child Maintenance

Can you please help? The Child Support Agency website says child maintenance for my daughter (her father walked out when she was 5) stops in the September after her 18th birthday if she goes to University BUT lots of my friends tell me this doesn't have to be so because they have continued to pay child maintenance for their 18-21 year old's who have studied at university. I don't want the money but I would like my daughter to have it if possible.

The information we were sent was that is was dicontinued in September - and there was nowhere that I could see to apply for it for the next three years.

I was told it stops when they are 19 unless the father volunteers to pay longer.

It stops, normally, on the child's 18th birthday or the end of secondary education, whichever is the later.

Most dads do continue to pay throughout tertiary education until the end of the first degree but pay direct to the child. This is done on a voluntary basis and nothing to do with the CSA

Your dd could make an application in her own right once she's 18.
