I want to open, edit, save a Word document created on the desktop version of Word at home on my laptop where I can only access to version of Word provided with my Microsoft 365 account. Will I be able to do this and will the original features still work? The document has drop downs etc. If not, can I get the desktop Word for my laptop without spending over £100!?! Thanks!

Using the desktop version can you not choose 'open in app' and then work in the full version?

I can with my 365 account.

Not sure I totally understand your question but assuming you want to edit a word document, without paying for Office 365 or the download version of MS office, you can always use the web version of word, which is free.

The online version of the M365 apps are not as feature rich as the desktop apps. If you don’t have a home M365 license then you won’t be able to use the desktop version.

I can’t speak to the drop-downs but all you can do is try.

most of the features will work if you use the web version of Word, but some of the advanced things are missing.

I recommend using Edge (the microsoft browser) rather than Chrome or Safari if you can, because microsoft stuff runs better in it.

Thanks all! I think I've managed to do it. I emailed myself the doc and it allowed me to open it on the desktop version as advised above without a license key/subscription. I did have to sign in with my work email and it's an educational one so don't know if that's why. Who knew!
