Voice assistant recommendations

we are a google nest household but it’s never been brilliant- went to find another nest mini and they don’t seem to sell them anymore so I’m wondering if we should switch? Anyone have anything especially positive to say about Alexa or others? Especially helpful if you’re using for supporting a family member with dementia.

I think you need to have a specific use for a voice assistant in mind before you buy. Then you can research if its any good for that. FWIW I've got five Alexa speakers including one of the first generation. It was pre-ordered and arrived on the day before they went on general sale. I was thrilled because it did what I wanted it to do. In my case that was playing Audible audiobooks hands-free. Now I also use them for "phoning" other people, reading out Kindle books, listening to the radio, alarms/timers, translating words into foreign languages, controlling my central heating and asking the weather/date/time. They can be a bit flakey but mine are all old models, before they went spherical.
