Help with laptop for university

Can anyone recommend a laptop for university? Looking around £500 ish . No idea what to look for or what is important and would appreciate some advice.

Depends a lot on the subject. If just needed for word then your budget is ok. 14 inch screen is a good balance between being large enough to use and not too heavy to carry everywhere. Ideally 16 GB RAM and 512GB SSD hard drive and i5 or Ryzen 5 processor. Windows rather than Chromebook. Don't need to pay for office as this is free for students.

Will I need to get security on it? I only use iPhone and iPad so don’t buy any extra security packages for those

No, if it’s a Windows device the inbuilt Microsoft Defender will be fine

I would look for a second hand MacBook. I wouldn't buy anything else, ever.

Definitely Windows over Mac book. It is easier and more efficient for uni work.

Not sure what's funny. I am not saying it is the best but speaking from experience of those using Macbook. Obviously it's different if there is specialist software etc., which is not the case here.
