Hi, I’m hoping someone can help with this tech issue I’m having with my email. I’ve had a Hotmail account for about 20 years and just recently in the last couple of months something weird has been happening. People sending me emails have been getting a bounce back email saying their email was undeliverable as the mailbox was full. The weird thing is that I have actually been getting these emails And the “full mailbox” message references an email address that looks like spam, an address I’ve never seen before. I have changed my password but it still seems to be happening. Can anyone help?

Here’s the message below

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
xxxxxx @hotmail.com ([email protected])
The recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now. Please try resending your message later, or contact the recipient directly.

You need to delete some emails. That’s the only way. Save the ones you really need and just bulk select a load and delete. Do you store anything else on your email? Like sent yourself some large attachments?

From Google:

  1. Identify and Delete Unnecessary Emails:
  • Empty the Deleted Items folder: Emails in the Deleted Items folder still count against your storage.
  • Delete large emails: Sort your emails by size and delete the largest ones, especially those with large attachments.
  • Delete old emails: If you have emails you no longer need, delete them to free up space.
  • Use Outlook's cleanup tools: Outlook has built-in tools to help you manage your mailbox size. Go to File > Info > Cleanup Tools > Mailbox Cleanup.

Thanks @TY78910 but it’s not my email inbox that’s full, it’s some weird spam one

Google the problem and there are solutions online. I had it but got rid of it.

I did google it but I can’t seem to find a solution to this exact issue. The reason I posted was I wondered if anyone else had had the same thing and if I need to worry I’ve got a virus or been hacked.

It sounds like your emails have been set up to auto-forward to the other email inbox. If it's the case, you need to go into your settings on your email and cancel the auto-forwarding.

This bit that you posted:
xxxxxx @hotmail.com ([email protected])

is that you redacting it, or that’s how it actually came through?

Thanks. I’ll take a look at that
