My daughter becomes really distressed when she needs to poo and holds it in. Got worse since we started potty training. She is 2 1/2 ...

Is she constipated/are her poos quite hard and painful for her? I think laxido is often the first port of call but I’d recommend prune juice - my 2yo drinks a little at each meal and that seems to keep things nice and soft

I think constipation was the reason this started but we use lactose regularly so it's not constipation.

I also had a constipated child. She was on laxido for 2 years from 9 months. Once we potty trained her at 2yrs 9 months her constipation resolved as I suppose she got more familiar and confident with using her bowels.

How long has she been treated for constipation? Maybe she just needs more time experiencing easy to pass soft poos to get over what happened before. I would stop the potty training for a few months. If she's stressed about pooing in a nappy adding another stress of learning a new skill could potentially make it worse. A few months at this age can make a massive difference in their readiness for potty training.
