Anyone know how to recover permanently deleted WhatsApp messages?

My ex is taking me to court to try and get more time (more than 50/50) with our DS. He’s trying to paint me as an unfit mother due to historic MH issues. Has was abusive and controlling and sent many abusive WhatsApps. However I did something really stupid and after one particularly nasty message 3 months ago (before I knew he was taking me to court) I deleted our entire history of WhatsApp communication both from my phone and iCloud. Now I have no evidence to show his previous abuse and he hasn’t been abusive over text in the last 3 months (as shortly after I deleted it all he announced he was taking me to court). Any ideas how I can recover the messages? I’m feeling very stupid and really kicking myself

You can't.

Unfortunately if you don't have a backup then they're gone for good.

Three options spring to mind.

  1. If you have a device that had WA on, but hasn't been connected to the internet, then the messages could still be accessible. Provided it doesn't connect to the internet when you turn it on, i.e. turn your router off, or remove its SIM.
  2. Contact a data recovery company as the messages might be recoverable with forensic level tools, (somewhat dependant on how much the device has been used since the deletion)
  3. Make a Subject Access Request to What's app / Meta, but I would have thought it's quite likely they will say it's deleted.

Your solicitor maybe able to advise further.

WA = WhatsApp

WA = Whatsapp.

Double check the archive section of WhatsApp, just in case. I’ve also added the information below. I know you said you’d cleared iCloud but if you install Whatsapp to your computer for instance you might be able to retrieve the backup by following the instructions. Good luck.
