Microsoft scam?

My previous post about this was withdrawn by Mumsnet, I’m assuming because I forgot to remove my email address so I’m trying again! Apologies to those who replied but I cannot read what you wrote.

I was asking for advice about this email as I’m not sure if it a scam or if my Microsoft account has been compromised. I don’t know if I actually have a Microsoft account although I do use Word on my lap top - certainly no idea of the password.

I have not clicked on the link in the email but the second photo shows what appears when I hover over the email address.

Also apologies to Mumsnet for not asking why you blocked the thread, I could not find a way to contact you!

What is the full email address it's from? Account-security-noreply@ what?

I would probably assume it was a scam though. Could you go and log into your Microsoft account another way without clicking on the link and see if it brings anything up about unusual activity?

Hard to tell without seeing the email address it came from. Follow the instructions but DO NOT log in to your MS account using the link in the email. The correct URL to log into your Microsoft account is account.microsoft.com/.

Standard protocol whenever you get this sort of email from any service, no matter how genuine it looks, is never to click links in the email and instead use either a shortcut you've saved and know to be genuine or google for the correct address.

[email protected]

This is the full email address.

Ive just noticed though that my email which comes up when I click on the Microsoft address is not the same one as the original email was sent to! I have two email addresses, one with Yahoo which is my main one and one with iCloud which I don’t really use. I might be paranoid though about scams but it seems odd to have an email pop in my regular account which uses a rarely used one for my reply!

I will take the advice here and look at Microsoft by a direct link. Still no idea of the password though!

We recently had similar, not necessarily a scam . Have had one previously at which point we spoke to Microsoft store staff to check before reacting . Logged in direct(not via email link) and changed password. Check your message details against advice here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/account-billing/what-happens-if-there-s-an-unusual-sign-in-to-your-account-eba43e04-d348-b914-1e95-fb5052d3d8f0

So, it looks like it was genuine! I went direct to Microsoft and tried to log into my account but could not recall the correct password. So I asked for a new one, had to send the last four digits on my mobile to get a security code. Got one and after inputting it and passing the “I am not a robot” test, got a message saying there was a problem with the site and come back later! Bit frustrating but I will try again.

Thanks
