Amazon account for young teen

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this as I'm so bamboozled by trying to google this, or even get a straight answer out of anyone at Amazon support either, for that matter.

My son has been given a Kindle by a family member, but it's not a kid's Kindle, so it won't work on a kids' profile on our family account. For some reason, even though it's possible too add a teen login if you are in the US, they don't offer that service here so we have to set up his own account separately. At 13, I would still prefer to be able to put in parental controls but how do we do this from another account?

We have the same thing and I didn't want to create an account with a card attached that he could use so I buy his books via my account and you can then share the book with them via Amazon Household.

It seems the parent controls are also in an App that could be downloaded to your son’s tablet.

On other hand, you could graduate him to invisible parental controls which is basically train him on safety, tell him to tell you if he strays off by accident or someone is trolling him or contacting him, and monitor his device history now and then. You have less than 5yrs until he will be an adult, so perhaps time to start teaching.

Thanks for your replies. Myengagementring - Unfortunately you can only add kids under 12 to household, so that doesn’t work for us.

Sugarandspiceandallthingsnaice - the kindle that he’s been given isn’t a kids’ one so can’t put controls on the device, but yes, I take your point and am mostly in agreement about teaching him.
