Shared Calendars

Can anyone recommend a good app for shared calendars?

I keep hearing people talk about iCal and I don't know if I'm just being dense but I can't figure out how to create one, even after google!

Google Calendar is very easy to use and share How to Share a Google Calendar

We use iCal - we didn't need to add it, I'm sure it was on our I phones when we bought them
we have individuals, groups and whole family calendar settings.

What sort of phone are you using? (i.e. iOS or Android)

We use the calendar app that comes installed on the iPhone. We can see each other’s calendars if we need to and ‘invite’ each other to shared activities which means the date goes into everyone’s diary.

@Dbank iOS, iPhone 13. I looked in calendar but can't seem to find the option to share or invite!

Assuming you're all using iOS, then you can indeed share the built in calendar

To share your existing calendar (on iOS 18.2.1)

1. Open the calendar application
2. At the bottom of the screen touch "Calendar"
3. You should then see the list of your current calendar(s)
4. touch the "I" in the circle icon to the right of the calendar you wish to share.
5. Click "Add Person"
6. Add the email address of the recipient

You may wish to consider creating a new calendar specifically for sharing, rather than sharing all of the events in your calendar.

I share my calendar with my wife, and she shares hers, so we get to see all of each other's appointments.

However I have a separate calendar called "Family events" that I share with my extended family, and add appointments to it when relevant to all of the people who have access, and they do the same. (i.e. Holidays, weddings, etc)

Google calendar very easy to use shared calendar. I'm on iPhone & dh on android & we get on fine with it.
