I watch charging

I got an I watch for Xmas but I'm finding it extremely unreliable in charging. It shows the red lightening bold when I place it on the disc but is still the same the next day.
I wondered if there is something I'm missing/ doing wrong? Tia

Forgive that this is a tad obvious but.... are you sure you have the charging pad the right way up? The watch back needs to sit on the slightly indented side of the charger.

Yes I'm putting it on the side where it sort of attaches with a magnet ?
