Accessing the laptop of a deceased person

I'm hoping someone can advise me.

My mum was terrible at remembering her passcodes for everything and would often reset them. I knew the last known passcode for her laptop but sadly she has since passed away, and the passcode I have no longer works.

I know she had loads of photos on her laptop which I wouldn't want to lose. If I took it to a tech expert with a copy of the death certificate and letters of administration (so covered for legal purposes), would they be able to unlock it? It's only a four digit passcode.

Yes, almost certainly - give the 'tech expert' a ring first to explain the position.
