Talk me through changing my mobile provider like I'm an idiot

Please help, I'm a complete technophobe.I have recently come to the end of my phone contract and it is currently rolling over on a monthly basis. I am looking to change to a new provider. I want to keep my old number but can't be without my phone while this is going through. I obviously don't want to keep paying my old provider for any longer than necessary. I assume I shouldn't cancel the old contract until it has all switched over. I know that there is a number you can text to switch my number over. Can anyone please kindly go through what I need to do to get the switch done with the least problems?

It’s really easy to keep your number, they give you a PUK code and it ports over.

The easiest way is probably to go into a phone shop and they’ll sort it for you, but you don’t need to swap providers to get a phone upgrade unless you really want to.

They will do it all for you. It’s no longer the customers hassle.

why do you want to switch? If it’s the price, call up your provider and tell them you’re thinking of leaving and ask what they’re willing to do to keep you.

however if you do choose to go else where they will handle the switch over of your number.
