Need a new email account - what is the best free provider these days

Very long back story but I am probably going to have to get a new email address to replace my current Gmail one which I have had for 15+ years.

What is the best\preferred option these days? Gmail still the service of choice or are there better options out there?

I pay to own a domain. It’s only a few pounds a year and it’s mine, rather than a vehicle for scraping my data

Have a look at Proton - more secure than most.

Thanks everyone. I am probably going to have to abandon my current gmail account, nothing wrong with Gmail itself. But Proton sounds good, or owning a domain. Both sound like a good replacement.

Another vote for using your own domain, for me email is too important for someone else to own.
