iPhone passcode

My husband is very ill in hospital and getting lots of emails, messages that I’d like to check and deal with. We have been dealing with lots of our financial affairs as he has a terminal diagnosis.
He usually has Face ID but I don’t know if he’s been trying to get into his phone whilst in his confused state as it now wants him to put the passcode in. I don’t know what it is and he has no idea at the moment as he’s so confused about everything.
Is there anything I can do or do I just have to hope he gets better enough to remember it? I don’t have Face ID set up so don’t know how it all works.

Are you visiting him? Can you get in using his face whilst you are there?

Hi, I can’t as at some point he must have switched his phone off or it died so now it needs the passcode entering.

I'm so sorry you're in this predicament, added stress when you really don't need it.
I don't believe there is anything you can do. Can you access his emails from some other device that you can get into?

Would he have another device with his apple ID password saved? You can reset it on that other device (iPad et )
Basically without the pass code you are looking at a long process to reset. There should be a forgot password option on the screen (maybe after a few missed attempts) but you generally need access to email and/or apple ID and password

Did he not set you up as a legacy contact? We did that for exactly this reason as you describing...

For those who never heard of that, I highly highly recommend doing that, along with setting up each other as recovery contacts.
