Is an iPhone 11 worth getting in 2024?

I want to get an iPhone but don't want to spend alot! I had a play on my friends iPhone 11 and really liked it so I was thinking about getting one.

However it's been out for a while, apparently it still has 2 years more of software updates and it's currently £399 at Argos of 128gb!

I only really need it for emails and a maybe a few nice pics etc... nothing really special.

However is it worth it with the years of updates left?

FYI: I'm a student at uni, don't have a great amount of money, so can afford the fanciest iPhone out there.

Get it 2nd hand of magic magpie or back market will be cheaper and better for the environment

I think you need to look at the cost per year you will get from it and compare to the cost per year with other newer models for the number of years they will be supported. As pp said have heard good things about backmarket but also shop around new.

Just had a very quick look on backmarket and you can get a refurbished 13 for less than you've quoted above.

PickledPurplePickle · 11/07/2024 05:34

don’t buy an old one new, get a refurb

sparkles79 · 11/07/2024 06:19

Get a refurbished one

WhitegreeNcandle · 11/07/2024 06:28

How good are the refurbished ones please? Ive been looking at a new iphone and would rather have a refurb for environmental reasons but i like to keep them for 5+ years so want to make sure battery life stays ok

Is the iPhone 13 any good?

I have heard the iPhone 12 is really bad! But high praise of the 11, 14 and 15...

14 and 15 are a little out of my price range. One of my friends bought a second hand iPhone and she said the phone stopped her from creating a new apple id as the phone was at the limit. So she had to create it on a friend's old apple device.

I’ve got an 11 purchased refurbished a year or so ago via Backmarket, you can take out insurance through them if you are clumsy like me.

I’m perfectly happy with it and my £10 per month sim, and when it dies I will get a newer one the same way.

I could, and have had far more expensive phones but they just don’t excite me that much and I feel bad about the mineral mining to make them.

ShaunaSadeki · 11/07/2024 13:06

@WhitegreeNcandle the battery life is the only issue we have had with refurbished. DD had one from somewhere online and whilst the battery health was within what the supplier deemed to be acceptable (80% from memory) it was rubbish and I complained and stood firm until they replaced it.

whatafaf · 11/07/2024 17:49

@StarryIsabella I'm afraid I have no idea! I have a 13 and it's fine but the only reason I have an iPhone is family sharing. DH has a 12plus and is happy with it.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/07/2024 18:10

I read somewhere that 11s will only be supported by Apple until 2026. Anything older than an 8 is “obsolete” this year.

ZombieBoob · 11/07/2024 20:55

We got dd iPhone from backmarket and have had no issues so far we've had it two years now. No insurance on it though.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 21:46

No.

StarryIsabella · 11/07/2024 21:53

Yikes! I'm thinking of saving money this month and then next month I can get the iPhone 14... That way I should have a few years of use on it.
