Phone calls to Alexa

My elderly parents use Alexa around the house.

The phone number associated with their Alexa is DMs mobile.

DF has dementia and needs reminding to take his tablets.

If I wanted to call DF on Alexa to remind him to take his tablets when DM is out would it work or would the call go to DMs mobile?

Thank you.

You can call anyone in the associated address book from your alexa device. So mine is attached to my number/account but I call loads of people on mine

Yes, you should be able to drop-in, rather than call, if it's linked to your account (fine to have the mobile as DM's)

@Justbrowsing2024 think you misunderstood the question!

@EarringsandLipstick thank you. What is the difference between "drop in" and call?

Drop in is where you can speak and it'll come out of the Alexa device like a speaker and your dad can call back to you.

I don't think you can call an Alexa device directly from your mobile, only that you can make calls from Alexa.

You can also set a reminder on it for the same time every day. She reminds me every day when it's time to set off for school pick-up. Could you set a reminder for the same time every day, then drop in on the device 5 minutes later to check he's done it?

Haha quite, I am very tired. As @EarringsandLipstick said, you can drop in

Thank you @EarringsandLipstick and @Justbrowsing2024

I'm going to investigate "drop in"- sounds like just the thing!

Will also think about setting reminders- had considered it but not sure if it would weird my dad out 😄

Drop in is where you can speak and it'll come out of the Alexa device like a speaker and your dad can call back to you.

Exactly this, now the only thing is what happens is you activate this from your Alexa or the app, and once connection is made, you hear their end & can start speaking. There's a little beep but no call, so it could be quite disconcerting for your dad! Just hearing your voice all of a sudden!

The reminders is a good idea. He needs to be in the room though.

I have reminders to take my pills on Alexa.

I'm often awake from the early hours so I sometimes forget.

Alexa sends me a voice reminder and then it pops up on my phone.

I don't think you can call an Alexa device directly from your mobile, only that you can make calls from Alexa.

If you have the Alexa app you can drop in from your phone and it appears in your call log like a phone call, if that information is useful to anyone Grin
