Read receipts

So .. if I have 'read receipts' switched off and open an iMessage will it then show as having been read if I switch read receipts on later. iPhone user.

It won’t.

It’ll only show as ‘Read (along with the time)’ when you’ve sent a message WHILST you have your read receipts on.

If your read receipts are off, you send a message and then turn your read receipts on later, the previous messages will still say ‘Delivered.’ Hope that makes sense

Thankyou for your reply. Will that be the case even if the read receipts were on when I received the message but switched them off to remove the notification? I do not have anything to do with this person so don't want to engage or them to know I've opened it 🙈

If your read receipts were on when you received the message, but then you turned them off and THEN opened the message, the message will still show as ‘delivered’ and not ‘read.’

If you had read receipts on, you opened the message and THEN turned your read receipts off, it’ll show that you’ve read it

If you don't want anything to do with them just hit delete don't open.

I have done so since 👍🏼😁. Switched their individual read receipts off and deleted the message thread
