Help!

I need to buy a VOIP phone - ideally I need 2/3 handsets for home. Not fussed about answer machine.

I search on Amazon for VoIP and although I get phones back it doesn't seem to specially say if they are VoIP and I suspect most aren't.

Anyone got any recommendations for reasonable prices VoIP models?

Thanks.

There are plenty of apps out there which will turn your smartphone into a voip phone. Are you connecting out to a SIP endpoint that's out on the internet, or one that's within your own network (i.e. connected to your router)?

It's to replace my home phone. Moving to a different broadband supplier and the calls package needs a VoIP phone. Due to elderly relatives not quite ready to give up a landline number.

What have they got at the moment. We had a panic thinking my parents needed a new VOIP phone for the same reason but the one they had worked. It was a Gigaset A415 A.

Ah it's me that needs it - mean I don't want to give up landline as that's what they are used to calling on. My phones are ancient. I will have a look at that gigaset model.

Ooh I can help with this!

Look up the Yealink VoIP phones, companies like Broadband buyer, Ebuyer, Comms Express are more likely to sell 'real deal' voIP phones 😊

Even if they use it via an app on their phone, they will still have the landline number. They'll just get calls for both their mobile number and their landline number coming through to their smartphone.

I had to have a US landline number for a while, and I just had a Voip app on my phone. Calls for both my US number and my UK regular phone came through to the same phone (although for the Viop number it was the Voip app, not the regular phone app).

Any recent-ish DECT phone will work. I used my old Panasonic ones with Skype, but can't remember how I set it up (sorry).

As @SprinkleRainbow says, you can get phones that do all sorts of clever VOIP stuff without setting up. They're called SIP and, in the UK, Gigaset is a rated brand.

We're going to be VOIP only in 2025. Telecoms providers will give customers an adapter that plugs into your router/modem - if you want one of those now, they cost about £30 and you set it up using your computer.

I'd like to be more help but it's absurdly hard to get exact information.

As said above, you can just get an adapter for your landline socket, search for VOIP telephone adapter. Although our ISP/phone provider sent one free when we made the switch from analogue to digital line last year.
