Apple Watch

Hi all - thinking of buying an apple smart watch (8 series). Are they worth the money?

I'm not very good with tech and it seems like a lot to spend on a watch. But I'm getting back into my fitness and need a reliable smart watch.

Depends on usage to be honest.

I have one that I can make phone calls on too if you're not near your iPhone - the ones you can't are cheaper.
Its an additional line on my phone bill.
Was a present but I had to change it to my name otherwise I couldn't get MY calls. It is ridiculous in this day and age to be honest.

I use it for a timer for cooking too.
It counts my steps and updates my iPhone health app.

To be honest though, if I was using it purely for fitness, I wouldn't buy one of them. Id get something cheaper.

If for fitness, buy a Garmin. Doesn't have to be top of the line, as they are all decent. For multi sports, the Vivoactive line is good (or whatever the equivalent is).

I currently have an Apple Watch (previously had a Garmin 4S). Tbh, it doesn't do anything fitness wise better than the Garmin. Funnily enough, the main reason I like it is asking Siri to set timers while I am cooking!

I have used the watch a couple of times to take calls, but honestly it's such a niche feature that it isn't really that useful for me.

Series 8 user here. I like having quick access to texts and calls, and the customisable watch faces and straps are fun. Best of all, there’s no more hunting around in pockets or my bag to pay for items on my phone. The fitness features are very motivating, but if you want to buy the watch for fitness I wouldn’t bother.

Thanks for your replies. It really just the fitness tracking I need so I think I'll look for a cheaper alternative.

I like mine but it was a present from dh to replace my slightly older one from a few years ago which I bought myself.
it does what I need it to do and I like how it looks. I could absolutely get something that does the same functions as mine for a fifth of the cost though.
