I don't want an iPad cos it's so restrictive.
Need it to cast to TV, read emails etc. My eyes hurt from staring at the phone.

Please recommend a good (Android?) tablet.

We've got a Samsung Galaxy A8 that we are happy with. Has TV casting and everything you'd expect from a decent Android device. They come with 32 GB memory (about £170) or 64 GB (about £200).The 32 GB one is fine for us. One thing that we find very handy is a wallet type case to keep it in.

What is restrictive about an iPad???

Roselilly36 · 15/05/2023 08:15

I only have iPad, on my third, I think now, but my DS’ have Samsung and they are very good I have to say. Given the difference in price.

I bought a Lenovo tablet a few weeks ago (£130ish) and it's great. I've always had iPads but couldn't justify the cost right now and needed something for me and that the kids could use so this seemed like the ideal solution. Been really pleased with it so far.

What is restrictive about an iPad???

A lot of people (I'm one) don't like being tied to Apple ecosystem, and Apple users can be snobby about Android.

I had an iphone some time ago. It wall clumsy to transfer photos etc. It was just too restrictive, you need to buy other Apple products to use anyone seemlessly. My DH uses an iPhone and iMac Pro. I'm not comfortable being tied to a brand the way their products are set up.

@CornishGem1975 which Lenovo? @Roselilly36 which Samsung?
@CharlottenBerg thanks. Shall review the Galaxy A8. I think it came up as a good one in my search a few months back.

@StrawberriesSW1 their models are a few years old now, so I am sure there are more upto date Samsungs now, DS2 did buy a Lenovo tablet before the Samsung, didn’t last five minutes, wouldn’t charge, unless Lenovo have really improved buy a Samsung.

CharlottenBerg · 15/05/2023 16:36

I know some people rate Lenovo tablets, but I would choose a Samsung any day, we have three in our house.

StrawberriesSW1 · 15/05/2023 20:55

Thanks. I'm happy with either a Samsung and happy to try a Huawei if recommended as I've used both phones.

I popped into John Lewis and asked the same question. Came out with an S6 lite & pen £350ish, has been fine for my usage, but you may not need as much storage, so can get a cheaper one from about £150

Another vote for the Samsung a8, I have an android phone so it works for me, does everything I need it to.

StrawberriesSW1 · 16/05/2023 11:17

Suggestions noted. Thanks.

@StrawberriesSW1 what did you go for in the end.

I would really like a tablet for watching stuff like crochet videos etc.

Have been thinking lenovo but unsure if I should go Samsung.
My phone is huawei

StrawberriesSW1 · 27/07/2023 12:52

@Sunshineandrainbow I was at Currys the other day and saw mostly Samsung and a couple of Lenovos but not bought yet.
