I’m looking for a small, cheap, basic printer for home - just for the odd document or letter or ticket etc. don’t want to pay a fortune for either printer or ink (definitely not both!) but it seems to be one or the other… any recommendations please? Can just be black and white…

thanks!

Avoid HP, I have always used HP but this latest one is useless

You need to think of you just want a printer or an all-in-one that includes a copier, scanner and (god knows why) a fax. Colour vs black only is a consideration. If you do go for colour, choose one with separate ink cartridges - then if the yellow runs out, you're only replacing one cartridge and not a combined colour one. A4 only or A4 and A3 etc?

Thanks. Copier would be useful, b&w A4 fine

We have a simple laser rather than inkjet. It’s basic; just printing, no copying and black and white. It’s much more reliable and cheap to run though

I agree with the laser recommendation but if you're looking for an inkjet, the following or similar will be fine https://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-TS3150-PIXMA-Inkjet-Printer/dp/B0742GQWJ2/ref=mpssa1118?adgrpid=52713460483&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIusHk7bPTQIVBoXVCh2BlgBJEAAYAiAAEgIQqPDDBwE&hvadid=259147488170&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9046604&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3191972603195380329&hvtargid=kwd-300229483858&hydadcr=168961798508&keywords=black+and+white+printer&qid=1678521691&s=computers&sr=1-18

There are cheaper models from HP but they usually come with HPs instant ink deal whereby the printer "orders" new ink when it starts to get low and you may not want to be tied into such a deal

Thanks!

I have this one. It's absolute crap. Avoid at all costs and all others using this ink system. It's really washed out with faded colours. Online reviews all say the same.

Wish I'd stuck with my HP inkjet.

@VintageThoughts you may well be right. It was an example of a cheap printer. I've tended to buy Brother All in ones with A3 and in colour. I'm not sure for £40 a printer that there can be much difference between the lower end models.
