Alexas and Spotify Accounts

Hoping someone can help. I have a Spotify Account and an Echo Dot. DS got an Echo Dot at Christmas and has just got his first mobile. Iv downloaded Spotify for him and set both of us up (along with DH) on the Spotify family plan. I cannot for the life of me get both Spotify Accounts to play on the respective Dots. They keep playing on one and when I try to set up the other they switch over. Am I trying to do something that can't be done or do I need to wait until next month until my first updated bill come out. Arrrggghhh

I think you can only link one Spotify account to the alexas? We have Spotify family premium whatever and the way we've done it is we each have our own personal accounts and then the one that we linked to alexa as a "family" account. Bit of a faff to log out and in to update playlists etc but it works for us

I think you get around this by switching Amazon account on the echo device you're using.

You can family share your Amazon prime account which also give access to certain prime services too.

So person A's Amazon account is linked to echo dot 1
Person B's Amazon account is linked to dot 2.
Each Amazon account has the Spotify skill registered against their Spotify log in.

You can switch between accounts easily on each echo device. You can check who's is currently running by saying 'Alexa, who's account is this?' And switch 'Alexa switch to person B's account'.

Might be an initial faff but once done should work fine.

It's been years since I set this up so hopefully I've remembered correctly.

@greenalltheway oh I didn't know you could do this! Cheers

No problem, I'd be delighted to know if you get it working ok 👍

Thanks I will have another go at it. Never actually thought of looking at my prime settings.

Found this https://uk.pcmag.com/smart-home/134055/how-to-let-multiple-people-use-the-same-amazon-echo

As an aside, if you're feeling particularly evil, don't forget you can send you Spotify music to any echo device in your house from a different room direct from your phone.

I have much fun torturing my teen unexpectedly, by finding horror sound effects in Spotify. Connecting to Device (ensuring it is on max volume) and pressing play on blood curdling screams :) gets him out of bed in a morning Wink
