How on Earth do you set up smart tech?

I’ve been trying all afternoon and I just can’t get everything up and running.

We have a few devices - I’d like more but I just can’t justify anything else until these are all working properly.

We have: 3 echo dots, 3 hue bulbs, 3 sonos speakers. Also a tv with built in Alexa and two plug adapters but I haven’t even started with those yet.

My husband and I have both tried to set up using our own iphones. Do you think I’d causing confusion/ conflicting settings…?

We don’t have a Hue bridge but with only three bulbs I thought that would be ok (I think it’s up to five and then you need a bridge…?)

I don’t understand how to start. I tried to set up all the Hue bulbs, then Sonos speakers, on their respective apps. When that all seemed ok I go to the Alexa app and try to bring it all together in there. Some of the devices are found, then disappeared. Some are set up ok but then another won’t set up at all even though I thought I’d followed the same steps.

I want to delete everything and start again methodically. What’s the best order to do everything in?

I don't know for sure but I think I found the flaw in my own set up, although I am google system.... a new nest hub tablet doodah and a mini speaker is all i have so far,

the problem I think is that stuff seemed to have attached itself to different emails

I was trying to rename the mini but it was being very awkward, and eventually found it under an email used when we moved here and not the one my google assistant seems to prefer.

I am going to reset/reboot it all as currently it won't speak to the calendar either, which again is a separate email to avoid a billionty and one entry duplicates.

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow so if email addresses are the problem, I suppose set up could well be getting confused between my husband and I both trying to set it up. Good to know!

well, i am drawing a line under todays successes!

Disconnected the mini and reconnected and renamed it.

Went through all the emails and left all the HOMES except for the two that I want to keep attached
Added the new hub to one of the two emails
Made a google album and it's now showing those as a screensaver.

And finally got the thing to admit that home is here, not our old address! HAH !!

There will be tears and tantrums tomorrow....maybe I'll have another bash at getting Hooverboi online!

If i can convince dh to let it do phonecalls we're golden! although tbh I think I will see if I can get the one to speak to the other first.

All this technology is very exciting!
