Work computer problem. Help please?

I just turned on my work laptop. The screen is blank apart from a message. We are only a very small company, so I've phoned the 'IT' guy.

But could someone please advise what this is. Is it fixable?

In the meantime I thought it best to just turn it off.

This means the hard disk can't be found, so has probably died. Do you have your data backed up? You'll need to start it up by running from a Windows boot CD. But Def. a task for the IT guy!

The hard drive has been found, it's just not bootable.

I had this with my son's laptop the other day and had to do a re-install of Windows. There are a couple of things your "IT guy" could try first in the BIOS settings, but if they don't work and the drive isn't faulty, it's a re-install.

Hit F2 and run the hard drive diagnostic tests (if offered a choice of short or long test, start with the short one.) Take a pic of the results.
