Echo dots and multiple music streaming

We have Spotify family, so the kids all have their own Spotify with their stuff. We got echo dots this Christmas. You can only use Spotify on one dot at a time, there isn’t a way to have dots linked to one amazon account playing separate Spotify content at the same time.

From reading around it (though I might be wrong) it seems you can do this with google home minis once everyone has their own google log in but not with Amazon. This functionality is offered with Amazon music family unlimited and they want people to buy into their architecture for streaming I guess.

Anyway, anyone who has got dots for the family and wants people to be able to play separate music at the same time what have you done?

I see my options as
-buying the Amazon family subscription in addition to Spotify,
-getting rid of Spotify and moving to Amazon music
⁃ I thought maybe it would work to have the older kids connect their phones locally to their echos via Bluetooth and play their own Spotify playlists. Had seen this suggested as a workaround but it doesn’t work.
⁃ Set up separate Amazon accounts for each echo dot. I don’t know if this would work or what the downside would be in terms of communication between echo dots on the same WiFi but different Amazon accounts. I asked Amazon and this was the answer, which I don’t understand
⁃ “If you set up a group or any other purpose with all the device you need to register all the device in same account. But for music subscription only we able to access it in different account also. For all future it need to registered in same account”

Any thoughts?

Bumping for you op because I’m having exactly the same issue! We already have a family Spotify account, so I really don’t want to pay for Amazon family too Confused

Oh wow I had no idea that was an issue. That’s disappointing, I was going to upgrade to spotify family but maybe I should cancel it and go for Amazon music instead?! Is it a decent service?

We have a family Spotify and separate Alexa Dots playing our individual Spotify music. What we had to do was stream from our phones directly to each Dot using the Bluetooth.

Why doesn't the bluetooth work? That's what I was going to suggest - I bluetooth stuff from other accounts to my echo, although I do also have amazon unlimited

We do this too. Spotify app on device, play, connect in the app to the specific dot.

If you want to say Alexa play blah, it will use the linked Spotify account. If all the dots were different amazon accounts they would not be able to be managed as a group.

I haven't even dared pay for a music subscription yet as I find it so complicated.
DD has an alexa (No smart phone), DS has a Google.
