I would like to get my daughter a very basic kids MP3 player for her birthday in a few week. Something like this- MP3 Player, Cartoon MP3 Music Player for Kids Bear Paw Button Design, 1.8" LCD Screen, MP3 Player with Radio, Kids Games, Sleep Timer, Voice Recorder www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C3NNMMV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fnd0DbCQDW7S6?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-tech-tips-and-queries-3745274-MP3-player-advice-for-complete-tech-novice" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C3NNMMV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fnd0DbCQDW7S6

However I have literally no idea on how we would actually get the music she wants on there! We have Apple Music but I don’t think it would let you download onto a non Apple product.
Am I going to have to pay for some sort of music streaming service? I can barely use Microsoft word and am feeling totally out of my depth! Feeling like an ancient dinosaur right now so all and any advice welcome!

You'd need your own stash of MP3s in order to copy them over to that little thing, and you're right that you can't get those out of Apple Music.

The lowest-end thing that'll work off Apple Music is an 2nd hand iphone5s (about £80, though you almost certainly know someone with one in a drawer somewhere!), and that comes with all the usual caveats of being a bit delicate and needing Internet (wifi or cellular) to play music.

Otherwise you're going to have to learn how to get MP3s. What I'd suggest is an entirely non-legit thing, a browser addon so that you can save mp3's from Youtube video. If you happen to use Firefox, here's one: addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/youtube-to-mp3-firefox/ - it adds an "MP3" button to Youtube pages and does the obvious.

Once you have your MP3s, you'll probably have to cable the player to a computer and copy the MP3 files across.
