Conch piercing- wrong bar?!

PuttingOnMyPositivePants · 31/05/2024 22:02

I had my conch pierced today in an outer position as I want to wear a ring when healed. Before I had it done I did some research and it said to make sure you were pierced with a bar and not a hoop. So afr so good. However, my piercer said they would use a curved bar as this could cause less iritation when the time comes to change to a hoop. I didn't think anything of this at the time. However, after having a read about the size of bars (mine feels quite long) I have read SO many posts saying this is a massive red flag and should never be done. I am concerned now about healing. I could understand her thinking, but the curve of the bar faces down so not the direction a ring would go anyway? I know I will need to downsize in few weeks anyway, so wondering if I could change type of bar then or if would be too late?

Any advice much appreciated!

I would find a different piercer and get it changed to a straight bar (ideally flat back, threadless, implant grade titanium).

Good luck!

Yeah, they should not have used a curved bar. I guess I can vaguely understand the logic (they think the piercing needs to heal in a curved position to support the curve of a ring) but it’s still completely wrong and any piercer worth their salt should know that.

Thanks both, I have contacted another studio to see how much it would be to have it changed. The piercer did say to let her know if I had any issues with the bar but think I have lost confidence in them now?!

I am struggling to get to a piercer this week due to work snd opening hours... does anyone know what is likely to happen if I leave it much longer? Am I meant to downsize at some point too?

I think you are right to be concerned about the angle with the curved bar. I was pierced with a straight and only moved to a ring when it was fully healed but even a few years later I still have to readjust between straight bar and a ring each time (only for a few days).
